Remembrance

Somewhere in the late hours of the day or the wee hours of the night over January 16/17, 1997 a friend of mine accidentally overdosed. He was at a party. He took some drugs. He took some more drugs. He got sleepy and told his girlfriend to wake him up in the morning when their ride came. But he didn't wake up.

His name was Aaron and I learned some things from him:
  • Dutch guys can rap
  • bats can be kinda cute
  • guys who wear Gwar shirts and paint their nails black can get along quite well with artsy, jock girls
  • one person's influence can ripple through an entire community
  • I can take a man seriously when he's wearing an almost skin tight tiger costume (we had many drama classes together)
So every year since he died, I take a minute to think about him, to think about what might have been, how his family has been and what I can learn from his life to make mine better, 'cause I'm still here.

i'm so glad that you're still here.

and i think it's wonderful that you take those moments to remember him -- it must mean so much to those around him to know that he made a difference.
