Fifteen Hundred

Well holy crap.  This is my fifteen hundredth post.  Can you believe what an unbelievable waste of time contribution to society fifteen hundred blog posts is?  That is one thousand five hundred.  Do you understand this?  I'm not sure I can even comprehend this internet bytery.

Every once in a while I go back and read some of my earliest posts.  They suck.  Like suck haaaaaard.  Though at times they are a long ad for the Pita Pit or injuring annoying people.  Doing the second one would be a lucrative vocation if one could get beyond the law.  I'm still working on it.  But it didn't work for that one angel in Dogma, soooo I'm not working too hard.

This blog has gone through at least 3 different colour schemes, 3 different names.  At times (usually when I was supposed to be writing papers) there were multiple times a day.  Occaisionally I would take a few weeks off of entertaining and inspiring.  Most of the time I can adhere to a self imposed Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule (how many brains just exploded when I said that - yup, there is a rhythm to my madness).

The blog has been an updater; a sharing vehicle; an outlet for my angst, rage, sorrow, humour, etc.  I'll admit that the dawn of facebook has hit my numbers.  Though it's not surprising that a blog that has no real point would struggle to survive.

I'll keep posting my brand of humour, biasedly pushing things I'm interested in, and sharing the ridiculous.  Maybe I'll make it to 3000.

Peace.

Long, Beautiful...

I'm going to see the musical Hair tonight at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre. It promises to be a good time. Though maybe not if you're URC, or CanRef, or OCRC or FRC, 'cause there'll be wangs 'n titties in one scene. Though maybe if you are concervative reformed you never get to see those unless they're you're own. So you should prolly come. (I'm never going to be able to get landscaping or sodding done now...crap)

If you're conservative, live in the Northumberland County region and looking beyond musical wangs to broaden your horizons, I recommend the East Northumberland Secondary School, Drama Club production of Michel Trembley's Les Belles Soeurs. I'm sad I'll miss it.

#darkto

I woke up to reading about the power outage in the west end of Toronto. I also woke up to reading about how Twitter has been really helpful in communicating things during the outage.
The hash tag (techie way of marking topics/conversations) the Toronto power outage is #darkto. People put that tag in their tweet (what its called when you post using Twitter) and then you can read allllll of the tweets that have that tag.

If you go to see all the #darkto tweets you can see how people are using this to keep each other updated. People are reporting when their power has come back on; others are talking about how the public transit is going (or not going); some are posting tips from the city on how and what to do about your water pipes.

I, of course wanted to get in on this action (from the comfort of my warm bedroom in London, still in my pjs). So I started reading the tags. I answered one guy's question about where the outage was because he thought the tag was vague. A little later a woman had read a tweet about the city having set up places where you could be to get warm. But there was no indication of where they were. So she asked where they were. I had read where they were in the CBC article about the outage, so I posted a reply to this woman. A good few minutes later someone else sort of tried to point her in the right direction. She replied with this:
MissHC: @conniecrosby Thanks, but I already got it from @Lstew gotta love #darkto! :)

Hooray, I got to help someone find shelter and be a part of the current most popular hash tag. I think I deserve 2 naps today for that.

Not Cool

Guess what I just did? No, no, still wrong, cold, colder. Ok, you can't guess, so I'll tell you.

I just killed a bee - IN MY APARTMENT. Not cool. Working inside should mean that I do not have to fear death from bees. I just went around with some tape and made sure that all screens are sealed. This should make things better. But oy!

Interpreting The Thoughts Of My Wireless Card

Wireless Card: Dee, dee, doo. Things seem to be working quite nicely. Wouldn't you say so Computer?

Computer: (sweating because his little fan can't keep up with the heat he creates by running) Hummm, hummm. Oh yes, very well.

WC: Well then its time to change that. Let's see 'Good connection and signal strength' eh?

C: Wireless Card, what are you doing?

WC: I'm having a little fun! Ok, signal lost.....now!

Computer User: AH! Where did the signal go? The computer sitting beside this one still has a signal. What is going on? Ok, I'll refresh the list of connections.

WC: And lets just say that there are no wireless connections. Heh heh.

CU: WHAAAT? What do you mean no wireless networks available. I have a router in my expletive apartment! AHHHH! I'm in the middle of everything. Come back signal, come back (begins to sob).

C: Wireless Card, that isn't very nice. You better give the signal back to her, she's crying. And what if she cries over us, we could get wet.

WC: Good point, and really, I'm just going to pull this stunt again in 5 and a half minutes. Ahh ha ha ha, life is good.

Flaky Hippie Girl

I know I'm a total flake. I am more than aware of this. Part of it is a genetic thing. Its cool.

Maybe yesterday my flaky hippie side dancing out - I was sitting at my kitchen table/home office which is right beside the door to the balcony. There was a lot of wind yesterday, and there are a lot of trees near me. I could hear the big sweeping wind go through the trees and to me it sounded like waves (of water). If you through in the gulls (and the pigeons?) and the sounds of children playing then (I thought) when you close your eyes, it could totally sound like you're near water.

Maybe when Mrs. L. came to pick me up for our belated birthday dinner date, I made her come out to the balcony with me and close her eyes and humour me by telling me that the wind sounded like water.

I'm not sure 'regular' people do that.

Explain

How is this (new vid 11/06/08):

Not like this:

I mean we've got:
  • pithy announcers
  • rotating surf board of death
  • the big balls are like the log jammer
  • so much rope swinging
  • people hilariously hurting themselves

The Velocity Of Bricks

Once upon a time about 13 days ago I got a cold. It seemed like an other cold. I snotted, I sneezed, I hacked a bit. I figured I'd infect some family members over Easter, come back to the hammer, snot a bit more and get on with my life.

Um no. I thought the cold was getting better. Then it decided to get worse. Then it decided to drive me to the point where I'm beginning to wonder at the velocity bricks would pick up as a hurled them off of my balcony onto the cars below.

I decided to seek medical attention on Monday (day 10) because it seemed I had started to develop pink eye and as previously mentioned here, green stuff was emerging. I couldn't get into see my doc (until Friday), so I went to a clinic. The doc there said I had a bad cold and that my asthma was making it worse. Ok says I - that doesn't explain the ear pain or the green stuff, but sure.

Last night at 2am -not having slept since Monday at 4am, I broke down and hit Shoppers up for come cough syrup, vapo rub, eye drops and kleenex. I came home, and at 3:30 finally got to sleep and stayed that way until 7am. And I'm still up. I didn't sleep today, even though I didn't really leave my bed. I'm exhausted, but I can't sleep, cough cough, why cough, can't i cough, sleep cough, snot, cough? Every time I get close to sleeping or even when I finally do begin to sleep I wake up coughing. Stupid cough syrup, you are not doing your job. You are supposed to be an all in one. But you are turning out to be a none in none.

So now its almost 3am - my throat is raw and burny, there is no skin left near my nose, my nerves are shot, my body is weak, my eyes are getting sticky, my ears won't pop and yeah. But I have popsicles thanks to a visit from Jacki and Amanda and sometimes the cough sounds looser and when I'm not coughing so hard my eyes look pretty good.

The argh.

Ew.

So last night I had a rather frustrating meeting. It left me, well, frustrated, kind of riled and in need of some processing time. I went for a walk around a friend's neighbourhood for about an hour, and then talked to said friend for a bit about the some of the results of the walk.

When I was done I was tired, hungry, still somewhat frustrated and seeking comfort food. I decided to hit McDonalds on the way back to my apartment. One of the few things better than a dirty breakfast is a dirty nightcap.

Anyway... so I have my mouth and the rest of myself all set for a Big Mac, no onion, extra pickles. If you have known me for any length of time, you will know that I always take my Macs like that. I've been doing it since I was 16 - its a reflex now. So I order, I get my order and I drive away. I eat the fries on the way home and save the Mac for in my apartment. I bite into the Mac.... was that the filthy tang of an onion i just found? No, it couldn't be. Take another bite - um, I think it was - open up the Mac. Dag. They made me a no pickle, extra onion Big Mac. That is the antithesis of goodness to me! But since I was all the way back home there was nothing I could do about it. So disappointing, and I'd used most of a gift card up on that too!

Oh Meadowlands McDonalds at night, why do you have to be such a crap shoot (ha!)? One time I asked for a six piece meal with bbq sauce and they gave me a number 6 meal (a Mac, with onions) instead. Why MM@N, why can't you have the consistency of MM during the day? Le sigh.

You May Want To Repent, I Think Jesus Is Coming Back Soon

My Mom just told me that the Walmart in Trenton is going to be open 24hrs starting this weekend for the rest of the holiday season.
