Long, Beautiful...

I'm going to see the musical Hair tonight at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre. It promises to be a good time. Though maybe not if you're URC, or CanRef, or OCRC or FRC, 'cause there'll be wangs 'n titties in one scene. Though maybe if you are concervative reformed you never get to see those unless they're you're own. So you should prolly come. (I'm never going to be able to get landscaping or sodding done now...crap)

If you're conservative, live in the Northumberland County region and looking beyond musical wangs to broaden your horizons, I recommend the East Northumberland Secondary School, Drama Club production of Michel Trembley's Les Belles Soeurs. I'm sad I'll miss it.

The Best Job Ever

I am at this place in my life where in many respects I am very free. I am not married; I do not have children; I do not have a house or a mortgage; I do not have car payments; I do not have a boyfriend; my job does not have a contract. And in the more immediate sense I am not in any weddings; I have not been asked to sing in any weddings; and no one looks like they are on the brink of death. The only real commitment I have is loan payments. Those can follow me anywhere - even beyond grave.

You can imagine my excitement then at hearing about this. It's being called The Best Job in the World. The gist of it is - you go and live in an amazing 3 bedroom place on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef as the caretaker of the islands. You get paid, they fly you down and what do they want in return? They want you to take pictures and videos so you can blog with them. Ex-squeeze me, baking powder? Oh and maybe I should mention the 6 month position pays around 120,000$. So lets recap - if I got the position they would pay for me to fly down (and give me medical coverage for the time I was there), I would live in an island paradise where they would have a number of touristy things set up for me to do, and I would have to blog weekly about all the beautiful things while getting paid to do it. Can anyone tell me why this would not be the perfect job for me?

The initial application consists of making submitting a minute long video explaining why I am a good candidate for the job and showing some of my knowledge of the Great Barrier Reef and a brief application. Rest assured, when I finish the vid, I will put up here for your viewing pleasure.

Wish me well.

Tender

As the weather has been getting nicer, my time on my balcony has been increasing. Tonight I spent a few hours out there reading. Pretty much it was one of the best nights I have had in a long time.

I am reading A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken. This particular copy of the book belonged to my Grandma and Grandpa Stewart. I have been totally loving this book - it has been rich enough that I have not been able to devour it - which is often a treat for me. It is also very, very emotional and I found my cheeks wet multiple times just in the prologue.

Tonight I found myself lost in the emotional height of the book, and there I sat, in the summer warmth, as the sun went down, quietly sobbing as I turned the pages. It was beautiful.

Ka-Boom

No, that's not my financial infrastructure caving in, its the Canada Day weekend fireworks. And can I just say that city wide fireworks over a few nights are very beautiful from the 7th floor balcony.

Christmas Gift

"This essential field guide for all things Reformed offers a blend of tongue-in-cheek humor and easy-to-read insight—and ensures that we don't take ourselves too seriously! Organized into "Church Stuff," "Everyday Stuff," and "Bible Stuff," this new handbook encapsulates essential principles of the Christian life and uses humor to make the complexities of our religious tradition accessible to all."

I for serious want this as a Christmas gift. I'm not sure if there is a more appropriate gift for someone in my position.

Milestones, Not Just A Restaurant Any More

Guess what this is?

Yup. Who'd a thunk that way back in January of aught four I'd be making this milestone. 1000 pieces of narcissism up here on the world wide interweb for all to see.

For every post be assured that there is one other post that was brilliantly thought up while I was in the car, out for a walk, pretending to listen in class, etc, etc, that were forgotten before I could find a computer. Just imagine if I had been able to write all of those down too! Wow.

I had wanted to make this a much bigger deal - 'cause there is a special announcement coming down the tubes (toobs) but I just haven't had enough time to refine some of it, and I want it to be really special for you guys. So I'm compromising this milestone for what may prove to be an even bigger one.

I'd like to thank the many faithful readers all over the world. I'd especially like to thank people who comment. Its the commenters who keep me going on the tough days. You know who you are. Thank you.

I feel like I should leave you with a nice picture...hmmm Ok...I looked around. This is my favourite cupcake in the world. Sarah Moerman made it for me. It has blue icing because she made me blue icing. She made me pretty cupcakes with blue icing because she loves me. So this picture is not just a delicious cupcake, but it is also love.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

Little Johnny is playing in Hamilton this Friday, Friday, Friday, June 29th.

The game takes place at 7:30pm at Bernie Arbour Stadium, admission is 5$ or really smooth talking (ask Rob and Gayle about that one).

Celebrities like Dan Postma and Laura Stewart will be there.

Blog stalkers, this a great time for you to tear yourself away from your computers and come mingle with real people. 2nd floor at 777 this applies to you!

Last week's game boasted the tossing of 2 Hamilton managers and one Hamilton pitcher; Kitchener stealing home; a baby in a Red Sox outfit; prizes for the best dancer; a lot of peanuts and a great night of ball!

"So if you're in the area and you must be in the area because this isn't a very powerful radio station, c'mon down to the ball park and bring the kiddies with ya." (4 points if you name the quote)
