Can We Talk About This Guy For A Minute?

The shaggy guy on the left if Josh. Josh is romantically linked to that bronze beauty on the right (who happens to be one of my roommates). But we're talking about Josh right now. Josh is in a piano tuning, fixing, loving program right now. He learns how to help pianos be healthy.

Maybe last weekend he brought us big heavy, wooden gift. Maybe it looks a lot like this:

Josh gets 1,000,000 love points from our whole house for being awesome.

Shooting Star

Dear Grandma,

It'll be a year at dinner time that you left us. I can't say that 365 days has made me ok with that fact. I'm not sure what the interaction is like between earthly and heavenly realms, or even if there is any. I will not be surprised to find out that it is something we do down here to comfort ourselves. But I'm gonna pretend that one of the fun things to do in heaven is read blogs.

We had to go through many firsts this year - first non-wedding anniversary, non-birthday, Christmas, birthdays, Mother's day, Thanksgiving, Easter, births, etc. These things go on without you, but they don't look the same.

I still miss you quite a bit. I miss calling you after epic baseball games. I miss calling you when God moves in my life. I miss giving you hugs and receiving them. I miss writing you letters. I miss getting letters from you in the mail. I miss all the ways you loved my parents and how I benefited from that. I miss your laugh. I miss the fact that you rarely said good-bye at the end of a phone call. I miss sitting with my laptop and showing you pictures and trying to stop you from poking my screen with your jagged old lady fingernails. I miss teasing you about the constant poor performances of the Blue Jays. I miss having you agree with me that John can get into the craziest situations. I miss that you loved the things in my life, despite the fact that they were less exciting than John's. Mostly I miss you.

You probably know that Grandpa is doing well. But he tells us regularly that there is not a day that goes by where he does not miss you with his whole heart. I can only know pieces of what that feels like 'cause I only knew you for 27 years. He has known you and your beauty since you were both in grade school.

I want to tell you that all the love you gave me, the faith you had in me, and the faith you taught me are still living on. Grandma you were not just a drop in bucket. You were a beautiful wave in the ocean - one that is still rippling on.

I love you,

Laura

Kosher Cloven Hooves

Its no secret that I have a deep, deep love for bacon. It is that love that causes me to state that I am middle aged. Come on heart disease, I'm gonna be dead by 50!

Yesterday I was doing a little link surfing and discovered this: http://baconsalt.com/ - from the website: "Bacon Salt is a fat free, zero calorie, low sodium, vegetarian, Kosher, seasoning salt that makes everything taste like bacon."

Get off the floor - its true, this is a real product and now I know how my gift idea lists are going to look for the next while:
  1. Bacon Salt - original
  2. Bacon Salt - hickory
  3. Bacon Salt - peppered
  4. Bacon Salt - jalapeno
  5. Mac Book Pro (pref preloaded with Final Cut)
  6. Baconnaise
  7. Bacon Salt - mesquite
  8. Bacon Salt t-shirt
These guys have a blog that you should probably go to. It is here: http://www.baconsaltblog.com/ They are also on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace.

But while we're on the subject of bacon... a little more link surfing brought me to this blog: http://iheartbaconsalt.com/ - it will likely be the inspiration for the menu at my wedding reception (and rest of my life). While I was scanning through the blog I remembered this old gem:

I may have also found out this evening that a coffee shop/local eatery near my place is open 24/7 and that their breakfast sandwiches are available at any time of day. When the woman at the counter told me this I interpreted the details thusly, "So you're telling me there is bacon available 24 hours a day?"

I don't know what the appropriate substitution for Cheers! would be with bacon... maybe Sizzle! sure, its that.

Sizzle! (here's pork on your fork)

Tender Loving

My car gets to park in the garage this week and next as one of the other cars is gone for that time. I think Jean Grey (yes, that is my car's name) doesn't quite know what to do with herself. I hope that when she has to go back to sleeping outside she won't have developed a hateful morning complex.

A Milestone

This guy turns 25 today.

In case you're new around here, that's my little brother up there. Little brothers should not turn 25. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally enjoying the maturity (sisters, there is hope!), but still, little brothers should not turn 25.

I would like to point out that this particular little brother is a foreman (yup, he got 2 promotions this year) at the 2010 Olympic Bobsled/Luge/Skeleton track in Whistler, BC. Aside from that, he's a pretty good kid who calls his sister pretty regularly and has learned to ride (a snowboard) like he was born to it.

Happy Birthday Johnny, I love you.

(also, a very happy birthday to the L.Bo - Les, your commitment to fighting the results of sin is a constant conviction and encouragement to me, keep fighting the good fight!)

Further Proof That I Serve A Loving God

I'm heading to Hamilton tonight to attend a gala dinner (it's a gala day for me), and then I'm staying over night with one of the couples attending the event. In the morning I will go to the chiropractor (whom I miss so dearly).

I am happy to announce that by doing these little things, I should miss this:

Yup, that says 10cm of snow. At time of publishing Hamilton is not expected to get any precipitation during the same period. So I will go to Hamilton, let it snow, and then come back to London after the yuck is done. And all this planned weeeeeks in advance.

Thank you Jesus.

That's How You Know

So I'm sitting here working away and listening to music and this song comes on and all of a sudden I realize that the song is totally about love languages. It talks about words and time and touch and all kinds of good things. And I think it gives some solid advice on letting those around us know that they are loved.

Thus I give you the lyrics for "That's How You Know" from the movie Enchanted:

(as sung by Amy Adams playing Giselle and other parts of the cast)

Giselle:
How does she know you love her?
How does she know she's yours?

Man:
How does she know that you love her?

Giselle:
How do you show her you love her?

Both:
How does she know that you really, really, truly love her?
How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?
How does she know that you really, really, truly love her?

Giselle:
It's not enough to take the one you love for granted
You must remind her, or she'll be inclined to say...
"How do I know he loves me?"
(How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?)
"How do I know he's mine?"
(How does she know that you really, really, truly love her?)

Well does he leave a little note to tell you you are on his mind?
Send you yellow flowers when the sky is grey? Heyy!
He'll find a new way to show you, a little bit everyday
That's how you know, that's how you know!
He's your love...

Man:
You've got to show her you need her
Don't treat her like a mind reader
Each day do something to need her
To believe you love her

Giselle:
Everybody wants to live happily ever after
Everybody wants to know their true love is true...
How do you know he loves you?
(How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you need her?)
How do you know he's yours?
(How does she know that you really, really, truely-)

Well does he take you out dancin' just so he can hold you close?
Dedicate a song with words in
Just for you? Ohhh!

All:
He'll find his own way to tell you
With the little things he'll do
That's how you know
That's how you know!

Giselle:
He's your love
He's your love...

That's how you know
(la la la la la la la la)
He loves you
(la la la la la la la la)
That's how you know
(la la la la la la la la)
It's true
(la la la la la)

Because he'll wear your favorite color
Just so he can match your eyes
Rent a private picnic
By the fires glow-oohh!

All:
His heart will be yours forever
Something everyday will show
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know
(That's how you know)
That's how you know!

Giselle:
He's your love...

Man:
That's how she knows that you love her
That's how you show her you love her

Giselle:
That's how you know...
That's how you know...
He's your love...
