The Smell Of Guys Who Take Themselves Too Seriously...

Reachforth Slo-Pitch kicked off tonight with a handy victory by our team - FOD (Friends of Dan).

And once again I was confronted with guys on other teams (never the ladies, don't know why), who feel that church league slo-pitch is equatable to AAA baseball. They really are one simple step below the majors. I'm not gonna lie, I'm relatively hard core, I try hard. But as my good friend (who no longer likes to go by this name), JLo would say, "I know who I am and I know where I come from". I realize that there is only so much of a competitive edge that one can attain when playing co-ed, recreational slo-pitch once a week. It can only get better from here.

I'm hoping to keep all ya'll abreast of our progress as a team, so if you scroll down and check beneath the Time Warp and above the Archives you will find some Baseball action.

A Woman of Jazz Standards

According to some of the jazz I was listening to today women (or chicks) are both made to give men fever (be it Fahrenheit or centigrade) and to weep and wail (also to stay at home and tend their ovens and drown their last regrets in coffee and cigarettes). I feel that I alternate between the wailing thing and the fever thing. Though, now I'm wondering what it would be like to do both at the same time...hmmmm.

La Baumba?

I don't think that I mentioned earlier that the lovely Smoers is working a few days a week in the same garden as I am.

Maybe today, towards the end of the day, I looked at Sarah and in my head started to sing O Tannenbaum. But instead of actually singing O Tannenbaum, I started to sing O Smoersenbaum. And without anything having actually escaped my lips I tipped over and started to laugh. Yeah. I might need to look at counseling again.

Not So Bad

The current postcard count is 308. As of last August it was 277. I would say that is pretty good, 31 postcards in 9 months. With the summer traveling season in full swing we should see numbers continue to climb.

I have a feeling there are a bunch of European cards at Redeemer that aren't making it into my mailbox. I'll go in and bust some chops this week!

Anyway, for anyone as nerdish as I am - some quantitative highlights from the collection...

Ontario = 46 cards
British Columbia = 20 cards
Nova Scotia = 10 cards
New York = 12 cards
Florida = 10 cards
Holland = 13 cards
England = 19 cards
Italy = 17 cards
India = 51 cards

Reminds Me...

The tow truck driver's quote here was what I thought about when I watched this.

(Wikkert, J - if you read this and watch that you'll get it - it made me think of you too!)

Things The Egyptians Wish They Had Known

marriedtothesea.com

Declaration

I was watching CBC News Morning with breakfast and an advertisement came on for a business that sells beds and mattresses. Their commercial declared that May is better sleep month. I was taken aback, I had no idea. Had I known earlier in the month I would have done some things differently. Now that I only have a week and a bit left, well, I just don't know.

Then I wondered who had decided that it was better sleep month. Was it the WHO? Was it the Canadian government? Then, just then, did I wonder if this business had declared it themselves. Gasp. That gave me some inspiration.

If I ever have a business I have decided that I am going to make huge declarations in order to convince people to invest in my product. Some examples: November is hotdog on a stick month; June is eat a bowl of ice cream a day month; March is knock out your brother's teeth month (<-- i'll use that one if i marry a dentist!), etc.

I am an advertising genius.

I'm Sure There Is A Connection

I was looking at my Google Analytics reports and discovered that I get 5.14% of my visits from people who have done a keyword search for Karmyn Bokma.

I also get 2.25% due to searchs for Nancy Kerrigan.

I Need More Sleep

While about to begin making breakfast this morning a funny thought crept into my head. The thought was that I should change my name to...

Desdimona Haiku.

I think I'm going to take a nap after work.

Let the Reuniting Begin

You may remember January when this happened:

April showers bring May flowers and May flowers bring the end of the school year for John. I will be picking him up at the Buffalo airport tomorrow afternoon and transporting him to Kitchener, where he will start his summer baseball season with the Panthers.

May flowers bring June bbqs and the return of Tashley and Chelsea!

Sadly, the next time I see Simon, I will also see Santa. Unless July brings sponsorship to go to Vancouver.

75% isn't bad. Bring on the brother!

Sad.

This makes me sad, but has to be done.

Happy Birthday Smoers

Sometimes you're going blissfully (ha) through life with your finger firmly jammed up your nose. And then you meet a someone who turns out to be oh so very similar to you, who ends up being a prayer partner, who is concerned about making sure you are fed spiritually and physically, who believes in reciprocal vulnerability, who also wants to sculpt a flat tummy and continue to eat good food, who believes strongly in biblical truths. Someone who ends up being a good friend.

Sometimes that person has a birthday today.

Sometimes Sarah Marie Moerman is awesome.

Sometimes I'm glad we got to celebrate her birthday yesterday

And sometimes I'm pretty darn blessed to have her as a friend and a sister in Christ.

Feist?

So I had the tv on while i was washing dishes and American idol came on. They were doing a Barry Gibb show. Neat.

The first girl up - Melinda chooses the song Inside and Out. They show this little thing with Melinda and Barry discussing the choice and Melinda speaking about how she was wondering about the making of a song that was originally done by a group and the nuances of that. She implied that she was doing something ground breaking.

Cough. Ever heard of Leslie Feist? She's this Canadian singer, popular in Europe and Canada (no accounting for 'other' taste), she also does some work with Broken Social Scene. Well, turns out that Feist does um, pretty much a sensuality inducing version of this song on her album "Let It Die" and its remixed or 'unmixed' by Apostle of Hustle on the album "Open Season".

Sorry Melinda. It was very nice. But I'll choose Feist any day of the week.

(listen to her new album - Feist's not Melinda or Barry's)

Saving My...

...many thanks to Sarah for passing this along. I can only imagine what she has saved me from.

(for art sake I copied it exactly as I got it)

Update: The Long Version

I'm going home after school (yes, school. i am back in school after less than a week turn around. death) on Saturday (yes, school. there is school on Saturday. death) to pick up a car. I'm excited for this trip for a couple of reasons. One is that I will have a car that isn't actively trying to get me killed. Another is that I haven't seen my family since reading break in February. That is too long when you live in the same province.

I will be staying at home for part of Monday as well to attend the funeral of a dear family friend, Ruth. She was a super tight friend of my Aunt Martha's. And because Ruth didn't really have family in the area she got adopted by our family. So for almost 10 years she has been a part of the Stewart family. She was diagnosed with cancer in mid November and passed away on Tuesday night. We will miss her a lot.

Last night I had an interview for the job I would really like. I feel it went well and that God and I were accurately represented. Now I play the waiting game, which is scheduled to end by the 11th of this month. Eeee.

Natalie and I have decided on an apartment and we are just trying to get a confirmed third roommate. If you're interested let me know, we can enter into dialogue.

So, although I can't scratch house, car or job off the list there is indeed more progress and really, as long as we're moving forward its ok, right?

Sometimes...

...being in one class from 9-4 for 9 of 10 days is a little intense. Sometimes the registrar is bringing popcorn for the class. Mmm.
